UNIDAD 2: CONTINENTES Y OCÉANOS
ACTIVITY 6: PLATE TECTONICS
1. Read the following text:
The Earth's
crust consists of a number of moving pieces or plates, that are always in motion. The Lithosphere consists of
nine large plates and twelve smaller ones.
The study of Tectonic plates helps to explain continental movement, volcanic
eruptions and how mountains are formed. The high temperature inside the
Earth move the mantle rock up to the surface. This cycle takes millions
of years.
Continental
movement:
The
plates move across the surface of the Earth over millions of years. This changes
the external appearance of the Earth. Look at the map of the world – the east
coast of North and South America fits into the west coast of Europe and Africa!
Millions of years ago, these continents were connected

4. Copy these questions into your notebook and answer them.
1)
How many plates does the Litosphere have?
2) Look
at the picture. What´s the name of the only one land mass existed 220 million years ago?.
5. Click here. What is the meaning of the letters "My"?
6. Click here and look at the world map. Is there any relation between volcanoes, earthquakes and plate boundaries?
