Tropical grasslands are located between 5º and 15º north and south of the equator. They are found in South America, Australia and Africa. Temperatures are high all year, with a monthly average of 25º C. They receive about 1000 mm of precipitation each year. Tropical grassland is a zone of transition between tropical rainforest and desert.

Trees have developed long roots, the roots grow deep in the soil to absorb as much water as possible. Grasses grow quickly to make the most of the rainy season. The reach a height of between three and five meters.

  Tropical grassland can support many species of animals :

-         herbivores: include elephants, zebra, wildebeest, rhinos, giraffe and antelope.

-         Carnivores: include lions, cheetahs and hyenas.
