Earth's period of revolution is 365.25 days or one year. The path that Earth follows around the sun is called its orbit. As Earth revolves around the sun, the angle at which the sun's rays strike the surface changes throughout the year. This helps create seasons.  Earth's orbit is not circular, it is  elliptical.

The inclination of the Earth's rotational axis and the Earth's revolution around the sun creates seasonal changes. It also causes the amount of darkness and daylight to vary throughout the year. When the Northern or Southern Hemisphere is tilted toward the sun, it receives the direct rays of the sun. The hemisphere experiences the summer season and there is sunlight for long periods of time.
