  • Malaga City - Beaches

    Malaga City has much to offer a tourist, not only is it the cosmopolitan capital of the Costa del Sol it also has kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches. The beaches are all situated along the Promenade of Pablo Ruiz Picasso which is lined with bars and restaurants where you can sample Malagueño produce and culture at its best. Malagueta and La Caleta are the busiest beaches.

  • Malaga City - Cervantes Theatre

    El Teatro Cervantes is situated right in the centre of the city, surrounded by other historic monuments such as the Roman Amphitheatre, the Cathedral and the Alcazaba. The theatre also hosts Malaga´s Annual Jazz Festival - 2011 marked the festival's 25th Anniversary - and the Malaga Festival de Cine (Malaga Film Festival).

  • Malaga City - Festivals

    EASTER WEEK

    It celebrates the different stages of Via Crucis (the way of Christ). It is one of the busiest weeks in Málaga´s calendar, the city becomes enveloped in cheerful music and good spirits. To mark the event, all of the Hermandades (Fraternities) of Málaga take their journey of penitence through the city they carry with them large floats holding images of Christ and the Virgin. The floats have been known to weigh up to 5 tonnes, and are carried by Hombres de Tronos (the throne men) across the city in full public view, it is quite a sight to behold.

    As with any large city, transport in and out of the city is plentiful. There are services such as free Wifi Connection and an APP to inform you when exactly the next bus is coming.

    3.000 years ago the Phoenicians landed in Málaga, they called it MALACA (probably from the word malac - to salt) and they used the harbour as an important centre for salting fish. The Greeks followed the Phoenicians in the 6th century B.C. Málaga was further developed by the Romans, who colonised Spain in 218 B.C. and stayed for more than six centuries. In 711 A.D. the Moors invaded Spain and called her Al-Andalus.

  • Malaga City - Main Sights

    Major sights in the centre include the cathedral and several churches, each with its own distinctive style. There are also some excellent museums. These are all located within a small area, the highlight being the Alcazaba and the Castillo de Gibralfaro with their fantastic views of the town and bay.

    Most visitors to Malaga go to the Picasso museum and his house, as the painter is the most famous son of the city, but there’s a new art museum now which focuses on Andalucian art – the Museo Carmen Thyssen. Other recent openings include the Wine Museum, the Automobile Museum and the Glass and Crystal Museum. Contemporary art lovers mustn’t miss the CAC (Centro de Arte Contemporaneo), Andalucia’s foremost cutting-edge space. Heading back a few millennia, the archaeology museum has pieces from prehistoric through to Roman and Moorish times.

    Malaga's city park which runs alongside the "Paseo del Parque", was created at the end of the 19th century making use of land reclaimed from the sea. Every Sunday. The Malaga Municipal Band gives a concert from 12 noon in the Eduardo Ocon Bandstand in the Malaga Park. Just outside Malaga, "Finca de la Concepcion" is another magnificent botanical garden. There are regular guided tours of the gardens which pass through exotic trees and plants, Roman sculptures and a waterfall.

    The port of Málaga is in international seaport, and a popular fishing port. It is the oldest one of this kind operating in Spain. It is the second most imp port in Spain for cruise passengers; and is currently undergoing huge renovations.

  • Malaga City - Train Station

    Malaga - María Zambrano - Train Station opened in 2004 as a Vialia sponsored station. It is situated on Explanada de la Estación in the South West of the City Centre. It is next to the Bus station, approximately 2 km from the Malaga port and 9 km from Malaga Airport. Malaga Airport is connected to the station via Cercania services.

  • Malaga City - University of Málaga (UMA)

    Málaga University is the Institute of Higher Education in Málaga. It is a relatively modern university set on two campuses. It is one of the most popular Universities in Spain, and especially Andalucía, famous for its affiliation with the Andalucía Technology Park (PTA). As a relatively new establishment, it is constantly growing and improving.
