Time Out is a curatorial project devised by Oficina CO2 and a group exhibition featuring the work of artists Ana Morales, Belén Arellano Cañizares, Clara Malpica and Delia Boyano. This show explores the impact of childhood on expressions of contemporary malaise, bearing in mind that this first stage of human development is fundamental to the construction of individuals and their identities. It aims to explore the various shared themes, creative resources and cultural influences of artists whose works address the relative importance of this stage of life.
We are interested in our generation, the generation of perpetual childhood or adolescence, incapable of ceasing to rely on their parents in one way or another. Our parents’ generation was able to reach adulthood, understood as a state of emancipation, independence and autonomy on every level (financial and emotional), but to us it seems like an impossible or elusive dream. The boundaries between childhood and adulthood have apparently been blurred, and we often find profoundly perverted childish references in the work of artists, perhaps vain attempts to recover lost innocence and tenderness.
The catalog that accompanies the exhibition will contain the texts of Oficina CO2, by various authors.
Opening: January 19, 7:00 p.m.
Guided tour: January 19 at 7:00 p.m., by the curators and the artists.
Children's workshop: February 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., developed by the teacher and visual artist Eugenio Rivas.
Workshop for adults: March 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., given by the artist Emmanuel Lafont and Carolina Arán on the occasion of Women's Day.
Registration for the workshops will open one week before.
This exhibition is carried out in collaboration with the Museum of Malaga.

The CO2 Countercultural Curating Office, founded in 2020, is a self-managed, independent learning and working group focused on curatorial practices and coordinating cultural projects. The team is made up of Mario Caballero, Laura García, Elena Lara, Cristina del Águila, Ana Pérez, Enrique Res, María José Tejero and Juan Viedma. Although its projects are independent, the office is associated with La Madraza, a contemporary cultural centre in Granada. In January 2020 they curated the group show Fajalauza 2020. De aquellos barros estos lodos at the Admiral’s Palace, featuring the work of various artists connected to the Universidad de Granada.
During the pandemic, the team streamed all sorts of cultural activities on their Twitch channel, including Noise is (not) Data, a virtual art festival held in 2020 and 2021; Breathing Sessions about topics related to the fine arts (2020–2021); and a few collaborations, like the tattoo pop-up event with Oficina Cultural Memento (2021) or the album Beats to Curate to with different music producers and artists (2020). Over the past year Oficina CO2 has been carrying out Transistor, an artistic mediation project in the Zaidín district of Granada. The team invited local residents to reflect on the neighbourhood’s current cultural life and their agency in it.
Finally, on 1 December 2002 they presented El Sexto Pino, Oficina CO2’s first book, in which the collective’s members share their thoughts on different aspects of contemporary art related to marginality.
Sevilla, 1996.
Malpica earned a BFA from the Universidad de Granada in 2019, studying abroad during her final year in the Arts and Design programme at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. Her solo shows include Diversión con amigues (Centro Cultural Cutto, Madrid, 2022), Mismo colchón, misma condición, (Monastery of San Jerónimo, Seville, 2021), Soy especial (Galería Mondo Pichito, Madrid, 2020) and Doente (Granada, 2017). She has also exhibited with fellow artists in Periplo por el espacio (Galería ArtSpace, Mexico City, 2019), and ¿Eres de Sangre Azul? (Ateneo Republicano, Seville, 2021), among other.
As an educator, Clara has worked as facilitator of the project “De la experiencia al fanzine” with Luces de Barrio and Nomad Garden (Seville, 2022), taught a course for young people on video activism, audiovisual culture, youth and human rights organised by Alianza por la Solidaridad (Seville, 2022), and given multidisciplinary art classes to the homeless (Solidarios initiative, 2021–present). Her latest group show, which she also curated, featured the results of those classes and was titled Vivir en la Cuerda Floja (Sala El Cachorro, 2022). Malpica is currently working towards an MA in Art, Idea and Production from the Universidad de Sevilla. She is a co-organiser of the Seville fanzine event Skisomic Festival (active since 2017) and manages La Siesta Colectivo, an experimental analogue photography workshop and developing lab begun in 2021. She has worked as an illustrator for Gen Multicolor, a magazine published by DeFrente (2021–2022), a writer and photographer for Dosis Kafkiana magazine (2020–2021), and a photographer for the newspaper El Salto (2022). In addition, she was a guest speaker at the 11th Anarchist Book Fair (Seville, 2022), the official launch of Topo Tabernario at El Corral de San Antón (Jerez, 2022) and Tiny Fest (Málaga, 2022).
Málaga, 1994
Earned a BFA from the Universidad de Málaga in 2016 and an MA in Performance: Design and Practice from Central Saint Martins - University of the Arts London in 2018. She has two solo shows under her belt: La corona de la Reina at the gallery of the Málaga Fine Arts Faculty (2017) and The Cucumber Sandwich Club at Galería JM in Málaga (2017).
She was also invited to participate in the JMenvivo performance series (Galería JM, Málaga, 2019) and various group exhibitions, including Between Monochrome and Kitsch (Centro Cultural MVA, Málaga, 2019), El jardín secreto (MUPAM, Málaga, 2019), Cómo se cuentan las cosas (gallery of the Málaga Fine Arts Faculty, 2017) and A Minute Ago (Zabludowictz Collection, London, 2018). Boyano was selected for the Creadores 2020 residency at La Térmica and received a research grant as a 2019–2020 UMA graduate artist-in-residence. In the European arena, she enjoyed the Inteatro Festival creative residency at Villa Nappi (Polverigi, Italy) while she was a master’s student at Central Saint Martins (2017 and 2018), a performing arts residency at the Rabbithole Theatre (Athens, 2017) and the JOYA: AiR residency (Almería, 2019). In 2021, she won first prize in the visual arts competition MálagaCrea.
Córdoba, 1998
Arellano focuses on creating tools or rituals that can start conversations. She operates in the realm of objects, specifically pieces for wearing or living with. She is interested in themes such as intimacy and how people act when no one is watching. Arellano is currently pursuing an MFA in Public Art and New Artistic Strategies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Germany. She graduated from the Universidad de Granada with a BFA in 2021. She participated in projects such as Breathing sessions and Noise is (not) data with the CO2 curatorial collective and is currently a member of the artists’ collective acta, who organised the exhibition Elogio al Fracaso at the Admiral’s Palace in Granada (2021).
Belén Arellano has taken part in group shows like LOst iN TRANSLATION at the Bauhaus-Museum Weimar (2022), Du kannst das tragen at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz (2022), Unter den Nägeln at the Landtag of Thuringia in Erfurt (2022), MálagaCrea Artes Visuales – OFF at LA CAJA BLANCA in Málaga (2021) and HENTAI WORLD at Galerie Eigenheim in Weimar (2020). Her only solo exhibition to date has been Me You Us Imaginary, part of summaery2019 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (2019).
Málaga, 1996
Has a BFA (2018) and an MA in Interdisciplinary Artistic Production (2019), both from the Universidad de Málaga. She has presented two solo exhibitions, at the gallery of the Granada Fine Arts Faculty (2018) and at the gallery of the Málaga Fine Arts Faculty (2020), and participated in many group shows, contests and fairs, including Málaga contemporánea (MUPAM, Málaga 2021), Sweet Dreams. Sueños y acciones (Museo Carmen Thyssen /Art & Breakfast IV, Málaga, 2018), Festival de arte (La Casa Amarilla, Málaga, 2018) and Algo más alegre (Espacio Esto antes era campo, Madrid, 2018).
In 2020, she won third prize in the visual arts competition MálagaCrea.
