Ante el tiempo. Micro-relatos de resituación (Before Time. Micro-stories of re-positioning) is a project that seeks to interpret artistic work in terms of its capacity to deal with the complexity of reality, as something that can ignite the spark, light the fire or make the wind blow, in its own right, and which, moreover, situates us in a different timeframe, one which has more to do with movement than certainty, more to do with memory than with the past... a timeframe in which the past is a question of representation and perception, which shapes the present and therefore also projects the future.
Through the four artistic pieces that make up this project an attempt is made, on the one hand, to accept that anachronism, seen as a segment of time, as a rhythmic tapping out of the method, makes us become aware that the course of history is not an unquestionable certainty and a linear narrative stretching from the past to the present, but rather a process full of interruptions, incoherencies, jumps, etc. And on the other hand, that this temporal model is a prerequisite for the possibility of any image, of any artistic object; since, as Didi Huberman shows us, whenever we are faced by an image, we are faced by time. Thus, each of the works of the artists in this project, Paco Chanivet, Jose Iglesias Gª-Arenal, Cristina Mejías and Mercedes Pimiento, challenge the idea of a continuous and linear timeline and of history being a causal story. In addition, all the works exhibited here deal with this issue through an inscription contextualized in the medium in which they are presented: the Convent of Santa Inés, Seville and Andalusia, as an attempt to build micro-stories that restore our own history.

Seville, 1988
Bachelor’s Degree in History of Art (US) and she took part in the MACBA Independent Studies Programme (Barcelona, 2014-2016).
She worked as a cultural agent in the Loop Fair, a platform for video art, in the RocioSantaCruz gallery and in ArtsLibris. She is cofounding member of FASE, a Centre for Artistic Creation and Thought (Hospitalet de Llobregat, 2018) and the Intervals Institute for the Study of Artistic Languages, Social Sciences and Psychoanalytic Thought (Barcelona, 2016). She also carries out curatorial projects such as ‘Emociones Incendiarias’ (Civic Can Felipa Centre, 2018) or ‘Ne travaillez jamais’ (ADN Galeria Platform, 2016). She has collaborated with institutions such as La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the Picasso Museum in Barcelona and the MUSAC. She is currently a member of the Brumaria editorial committee and writes about exhibitions in the Diario de Sevilla newspaper in Spain and also texts for catalogues.

Degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM), NCAD in Dublin and Research Master's in Art and Creation at the UCM. After several years’ residence in Berlin, she now lives and works in Madrid. She is a visual artist whose work has been or will be individually exhibited at Centro Párraga (Murcia, 2020), Blueproject Foundation (Barcelona, 2020), Casa Pinillos (Cádiz,2020), The Goma gallery (Madrid, 2019) and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia (Maracaibo, Venezuela, 2017). Her work has also appeared in group exhibitions at CA2M, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (Madrid, 2020), La Casa Encendida (Madrid, 2020), SCAN Projects (London, 2020), AragonPark (Madrid, 2020), CentroCentro (Madrid, 2020 and 2016), C3A (Cordoba, 2019), C Arte C (Madrid, 2019), among others.
She has recently won a number of awards and grants, including Generación 2020 from La Casa Encendida (Madrid, 2020), Blueproject Foundation (Barcelona, 2020), Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (2019) or Iniciarte (2019). Over the course of the last few months she has also been artist in residence at the Hangar Lisboa, C3A (Cordoba), Matadero Madrid-Ateliers dos Coruchéus (Madrid-Lisbon) and at Tabakalera (San Sebastian) as part of its international residencies programme. Her works can be found in the collections of Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, CAAC, Fundación Montemadrid, Meana-Larrucea, Navacerrada, Fundación Mendoza, Alicia Aza y Kells.

He completed the Master’s Degree in Curating the contemporary (Whitechapel Gallery, London, 2015-2017) with a scholarship sponsored by the Botín Foundation. He is currently studying in the Dutch Art Institute Roaming Academy.
He works as an artist and curator, individually and collectively between literature, the creation of artefact poetry and collective project mediation. He has collaborated with numerous institutions, curating exhibitions such as ‘Melfas. Línea orgánica’ (MACSur, Buenos Aires, 2017) or ‘Arquitecturas de soledad’ (Fundación FiArt, Madrid, 2015), or projects such as ARTifariti 2016 (Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algiers, 2016); presenting individual examples of his work such as ‘Facebook’s Pavilion’ (Palazzo Lucarini, Trevi, Italy, 2014), ‘LOS MEDIOS DE PRODUCCIÓN’ (Espacio Pasillo, Seville, 2015), ‘Attivazione femminista dell’archivio’ (Belví PAS, Cerdeña, 2015) or ‘MÁQUINA EUROPA. Los hadrones de Clemente VII’ (Espacio Iniciarte, Córdoba, 2018); or taking part in collective exhibitions in institutions such as the CAAC (Contemporary Art Museum of Seville, 2016) or the MUSAC (Contemporary Art Museum of Castilla and Leon, 2017).

The work of Mercedes Pimiento originates in familiar elements: places, items or common situations, belonging to everyday life. Using various means such as installations, drawing, video or photography, she presents a series of sections or records of the way in which we perceive, interact and modify the places that surround us.
