DESCRIPTION

Esta ruta circular alrededor del Cerro Coros nos ofrece unas vistas panorámicas sin igual de la Sierra de Grazalema.

El sendero comienza junto al aparcamiento acondicionado para el mirador del Puerto de las Palomas, a casi 1200 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Iniciamos el sendero acompañados por pinsapos, árboles singulares y emblemáticos de este Parque Natural. A nuestra izquierda, junto a la garganta de Higueroba, encontramos la zigzagueante carretera que asciende al Puerto de las Palomas y que, de un lado, deja el pinsapar de la Sierra del Pinar, y del otro, el Monte Prieto, ladera de porte más arbustivo debido al incendio que la asolo en 1992.

Siguiendo el sendero vislumbramos en la distancia las imponentes paredes de la Garganta Verde y los cientos de buitres que allí anidan, levantando el vuelo con las primeras corrientes de la mañana. A medida que avanzamos los árboles de gran porte que nos han ido acompañando comienzan a escasear, para dar paso a encinas aisladas, cada vez más achaparradas, y un monte bajo de esparto, escobas y majuelos. Se va abriendo también la vista sobre el embalse de Zahara-El Gastor, con sus aguas turquesas debido a su naturaleza caliza y, al fondo como dos atalayas, las poblaciones de Zahara de la Sierra y Algodonales.

Continuamos la ruta virando hacia levante y veremos un peñón conocido como Tajo Lagarín (o Algarín) sobre la población de El Gastor, al fondo la emblemática villa de Olvera y por fin, las increíbles vistas sobre la ribera del Gaidovar.

El sendero finaliza cruzando el Cerro Coros por su parte más desnuda, en la que el ganado que allí pasta y las aves que allí anidan comparten protagonismo. Tarabillas y collalbas picotean en busca de algún insecto, mientras verderones y jilgueros recolectan los frutos del majuelo. Escondido en el roquedo podemos observar el azul del roquero solitario y sobre nosotros, con un poco de suerte, el majestuoso vuelo del águila real.

OBSERVACIONES

- No es necesario permiso para acceder, pero no está permitido salirse del sendero, por tratarse de una zona especialmente sensible por anidamiento de especies de aves protegidas.

- Se ruega cerrar las cancelas al pasar, y llevar los perros atados, por tratarse de un monte público con aprovechamiento ganadero.

Para acceder a este equipamiento por la carretera A-372 de Arcos a Grazalema, en el kilómetro 46.100, tomamos la carretera CA-9104 a Zahara de la Sierra, y en el kilómetro 3,200, en el Puerto de las palomas, se encuentra el acceso a este sendero (Las coordenadas ETRS 89/UTM: 30s X 287923,6 Y 4073967,4).
