DESCRIPTION

This facility is located in the Doñana Protected Area , in Reserve Zone A of the natural park. Located between the towns of Matalascañas and Mazagón, in the Acantilado del Asperillo Natural Monument, thus declared for its geological and ecological importance

The current walkway of the Cuesta Maneli path was built to replace the infrastructure that was destroyed by the Las Peñuelas fire in the summer of 2017. This walkway allows us to travel along the Asperillo dune until we reach the cliff. It is 1,371 metres long and is free to use. From the viewpoint, some steps bridge the gap descending down to the beach.

Through this itinerary that crosses the dunes until reaching a viewpoint and an immense virgin beach, the visitor will be able to see the importance of vegetation in the formation of this ecosystem. Thanks to their roots, mobile dunes are stabilised, the sands settling and preventing their displacement.

You can see a variety of small plants which have managed to adapt to the extreme conditions of this area, resisting constant winds and drought conditions, for example, European Marram Grass, a pioneer in the colonisation of sandy soils, and corema album, a species unique to the Atlantic coast of the peninsular and that has a small white fruit called the pearl of the dunes. There are other more exclusive plants such as the linaria, as well as scattered pines, common junipers and savin junipers. The presence of animals can be seen by the footprints that they leave as they pass through the sands; and from the cliffs we can see terns, seagulls, plovers and dunlins scampering along the beach.

Many species have strategies to survive a fire, such as regrowth and the production of resistant seeds. Thus, and although its situation is extremely fragile, with the help of conservationism, much of the native vegetation of Asperillo is recovering.
