The Tajo de Ronda is notorious for its unique geological formation and beautiful scenery; formed by the erosive action of the Guadalevín River over thousands of years, it is picturesque with unbeatable cultural and historical character.
Located in the heart of Ronda, it is 500 metres long and 100 metres deep, with a width of 50 metres. This colossal gorge is essentially a huge escarpment that opens into a circular basin: the Caldera. A colony of lesser kestrels inhabit the cliff face. There are also chough, peregrine falcons, Eurasian eagle owls and swifts, among other species.
Due to its historical and architectural importance, the Tajo de Ronda has a special protection plan, as it is within the Historic Complex of Ronda. In addition, due to its environmental and ecological importance, it is part of the Río Guadalevín Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
