DESCRIPTION

Along this path, we will cross the calcareous massif of the Sierra de Cabra, accompanying the Bailón River from its source until its arrival at the Guadalquivir Depression, north of Zuheros. We will visit landscapes of enormous beauty that the water has been modeling on the limestone rocks for thousands of years; rocks that were formed in the sea, about 170 million years ago, and that today constitute mountains.

The diverse karst landscape is one of the greatest values ​​of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, with the presence of practically all the geological forms that derive from the dissolution of limestone rocks. Thus, caves, grottoes, poljés, chasms, sinkholes, motorboats, gorges, springs ... accompany us throughout the tour.

Of all these karst formations, the protagonism of the route is divided between the Poljé de La Nava and the Bailón River Canyon, two geological jewels that we will discover today.

This trail represents one of the main attractions of the

EXCLUSIVELY PEDESTRIAN trail in the section coinciding with the Cañón del Bailón River. Therefore, non-pedestrian traffic is PROHIBITED, especially cycling and horse riding, in the section between the town of Zuheros and the place "La Fuenfría", which corresponds to the following coordinates UTM ETRS89 30S Xinicio: 383615, Yinicio : 4155695; Xfinal: 382490, Yfinal: 4152618

HOW TO GET

There are two ways to access the path, one through Cabra and the other through Zuheros: - From the CO-6212 road, which starts from the A-339 and goes up to the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Sierra, there is a path that descends through La Nava and leds to Zuheros. - From the N-432 road, near Baena, take the A-305 and continue along the CO-6209 until reaching Zuheros. The path that leads to Nava de Cabra rises from an esplanade next to the Bailón River bridge.
