ARROYO DEL DESCANSADERO - Ventana del Visitante
This trail connects Benamahoma, a mountainside town in the Sierra del Pinar, with an attractive recreational area, Los Llanos del Campo. The Descansadero stream accompanies us along the route with its beautiful riverside forest, a formation that benefits from the abundance of water in this area, which, despite its Mediterranean climate, registers a similar rainfall to that of northern Spain.
We will also cross the source of the Descansadero, one of the many springs found in this mountain range, where the water leaves its underground course and rises to the surface. Hidden among the thick vegetation are the remains of the Susto mill that worked with the waters of the stream.
On this short and easy hiking trail, we will walk under the cover of Valencian oaks, holm oaks and carob trees, accompanied by a multitude of birds that will flit around, and we will be able to see and hear nightingales, blackbirds, great tits, finches, long-tailed tit, robins, jays, hoopoes and soaring through the sky, griffon vultures, kites and eagles among other species. You will also have the possibility to see genets, mongooses and badgers in this area.
