CAÑADA DE LOS PAJAROS - Ventana del Visitante
The Cañada de los Pájaros is a small oasis for migratory birds and for some in danger of extinction. In an area of only 7 hectares, more than 70% of which are occupied by an artificial lagoon, it is possible to see almost 200 different species.
The result of the restoration of an abandoned gravel pit, which originally consisted of mainly eucalyptus and some hollows filled with water and some marsh vegetation, it has become an important wetland of high biodiversity. And, due to its proximity to Doñana and migratory routes, it is also a key breeding and wintering area for many migratory species.
La Cañada de los Pájaros allows close observation of birdlife, since the environment has been carefully adapted; facilitating not only their access but facilities for visitors to access the birdlife itself and enjoy the scenery. Scientific breeding projects are carried out here, mainly involving the red-knobbled coot, and stands out for being the first Centre in the World of Reproduction of this species.
There are also other endangered species such as the marbled duck, slender-billed gull, white-headed duck, squacco heron. In addition, its environmental education programs offer the opportunity to learn about a multitude of birds, in the hope of achieving greater awareness and respect, both towards them and the settings necessary for their survival.
