DESCRIPTION

This hiking trail runs between cattle farms in the natural park. Livestock is, without a doubt, the main use of the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park these days. The extensive open oak woodlands (dehesa), which occupies a large part of the park's surface, is the sustenance of this activity, and therefore, of the inhabitants of these mountains.

The pure Iberian breed of pigs are particularly important and in these dehesas of the natural park, they find the best 'larder' for fattening up in the countryside. Remember that when you enjoy the most exquisite Iberian products in any of the Cardeña or Montoro establishments, you will be contributing to the conservation of the surrounding landscape. The in situ transformation of the products of the open oak woodland (dehesa) generate added value to the area. Likewise, appellations of origin such as "Los Pedroches" and emblems such as the "Andalusian Natural Park Brand" help their commercialisation and certify their quality.

Along the path between the trees we find holm oaks, cork oaks and Valencian oaks, in addition there is a very dense grassland of seasonal and lively species, it is small in size but has a great capacity tregrow caused by the action of cattle. This is the most important resource in these pastures. The most common species are bulbous bluegrass and the subterranean clover. The presence of shrubs in the pasture depends fundamentally on the intensity of grazing, being more scarce with high degrees of grazing.

Throughout the route you can see much biodiversity of fauna such as the hoopoe, the azure-winged magpie, cochin chickens and rabbits, among others. Bear in mind that in the dehesa there are around 60 species of nesting birds, more than 20 mammals and many more reptiles and amphibians.
