DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The path follows the traditional path between the towns of Cumbres Mayores and Cumbres de Enmedio for 6.3 kilometres, crossing a characteristic landscape of multiple use open oak woodlands (dehesas). The main characteristic of the route is precisely in allowing the user to enjoy a humanised forest model but at the same time, managed in accordance with the principles of sustainability and persistence of its main natural values.

Compared to other areas of the province in which excessive livestock management has caused a gradual loss of tree cover and, in particular, a notable deterioration in the quality and stability of the soil, the farms through which this trail passes really stand out due to the density of the forest mass as well as its maturity and excellent state of conservation.

Under the tree canopy, most of the farms have pastures used for larger livestock, with little presence of shrubs or mid-sized vegetation. Only in the surroundings of the Barranco de la Magdalena, when the orography becomes more abrupt and the soils shallower and stony is the pasture replaced by Mediterranean scrub, typical of the first states of regression of the ecosystem (gorse, Montpellier cistus and broom). In this section the path reaches its longest uphill climb and the way is hampered by rocks justting out on the surface. In turn, the slope allows surface runoff and with it the increase in the deterioration of the path, all this means that the degree of difficulty is greater in this section.

As we get closer to Cumbres Mayores, the panoramic landscape expands towards the valleys of the Múrtigas River and the Sillo River.

Upon arrival at Cumbres Mayores we find a town known for its work in the Iberian pork and pork industry and where you can also enjoy the town's rich history, displayed in the Castillo de Sancho IV ( 13th century) and the Church of San Miguel (15th century).
