From this viewpoint there are impressive views of the Natural Duna de Bolonia Monument, a sand dune standing at over 30m high northwest of the Ensenada de Bolonia.
It is an accumulation of sand formed as a result of prevailing easterly winds colliding head-on with the end of a cove, made up of a small rock substate (more accessible from the west) and a mix of pine and underbrush vegetation. These combine to slow the sand down and cause the dune to form, more than 200m inland, and with a width of around 500m.
The dune is kept more or less stable by its struggle against the pine trees, with the sand wanting to advance and the trees wishing to grow. In addition, as the height of the dune exceeds that of the trees, excess sand is quickly carried away by strong winds.
From Vejer de la Frontera, take the N-340 towards Tarifa, turning off on the CA-8202 towards Bolonia. It is located next to the ancient Roman city of Baelo Claudia, along the road that goes up to the Camarinal lighthouse.
