This path climbs up through the Hoyo Paz area until it joins the Ermita path in the Las Revueltas area. At all times it passes under the reforestation forest created in the 1970s to alleviate the effects of deforestation and overgrazing on this mountain, a task directed by the egabrense engineer Mr. Emilio Escudero Martínez. Emilio Escudero Martínez with conifers such as Aleppo pines, common cypresses and Arizona cypresses, as well as species such as strawberry trees and common rowan trees. Among them, the presence of several centenary gall oaks from the original forest stands out.
An emblematic site in the Natural Park, the Picacho de Cabra rises to a height of 1,216 m and is the ninth highest mountain in the Sierras Subbéticas. Declared a Site of Natural Interest in 1929 by the then Central Board of National Parks, it dominates a spectacular geographic, geological and scenic setting that encompasses six of the eight provinces of Andalusia (Córdoba, Seville, Málaga, Granada, Jaén and Cádiz) and its three great geological domains (Sierra Morena, the Guadalquivir Depression and the Cordilleras Béticas). Thanks to its geomorphological interest, it is included in the Spanish Inventory of Places of Geological Interest and in the Andalusian Inventory of Georesources, as well as appearing on the list of outstanding geosites of the Sierras Subbéticas Geopark.
Desde Cabra: Desde la carretera A-339 Cabra-Priego de Córdoba, a la altura de la “Venta de los Pelaos”, parte la CO-6212 que sube a la ermita de la Virgen de la Sierra. En el margen derecho, antes de llegar a la cima del Picacho, sale un carril de tierra, que es el inicio del sendero del río Bailón. APARCAMIENTOS Al inicio del sendero, antes de descender a La Nava, hay un aparcamiento para 40 turismos. TRANSPORTE PÚBLICO Hasta el pueblo de Cabra hay autobús, (Autocares Carrera, tel. 957 521 302, (www.autocarescarrera.es). Hasta el inicio del sendero sólo se puede llegar en coche privado o taxi, o andando a través del sendero de La Ermita que lo enlaza.
