EMBALSE DE MALPASILLO - Ventana del Visitante
The Malpasillo Reservoir is of international importance for hosting numerous birds during their migratory flights. Set on the rugged terrain of the Genil River, dense vegetation on its banks is composed mainly of bulrush and reeds, alongside lesser quantities of lilies and rushes.
As well as its location near the Lagunas del Sur Nature Reserve in Cordoba, the ecological interest in Malpasillo is amplified by its contribution to the survival of numerous protected birds, which have their nesting and wintering grounds in these areas.
Numerous species of ducks (white-headed duck, shoveler, mallard, common pochard), rails (common coot, common moorhen), some birds of prey (western marsh harrier), herons (grey and purple heron) and grebes (little grebe) are found in the area.
More recently, flamingos, black-winged stilt, pied avocet and plovers (Kentish and little ringed), have been more prevalent in the area.
