EMBALSE DEL RETORTILLO - Ventana del Visitante
This facility has a beautiful panoramic view of the Retortillo River Reservoir, from the right bank. The dam, built in 1970, helps retain up to 517 hectares of water in the reservoir.
The Retortillo River, a tributary of the Guadalquivir, forms the natural border between Seville and Córdoba, also dividing the Sierra Norte de Sevilla and Sierra de Hornachuelos Natural Parks .
The large hydrographic basin is dominated by the typical Mediterranean forest of holm oaks and cork oaks, as you can see in the background and around the reservoir. The conservation of this forest mass is fundamental as it helps to regulate the hydrological cycle, increasing the quantity and quality of available water, and cushioning the effects of catastrophic floods.
From this enclave you can also see the fauna associated with lakes and rivers, such as cormorants, herons and different species of ducks which, like the landscape, will change with the different seasons.
