DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The Enebrales de Punta Umbría Natural Park is a dune ecosystem in which the remarkable and abundant junipers and savin junipers join together to form a mixed forest. These plant formations are very rare today on the Andalusian coast.

The Enebrales de Punta Umbría cycle route is located entirely in the municipal area of Punta Umbría, in this natural setting. The route runs parallel to the coastline, in an east to west direction, from the very centre of the municipality (Barceló Hotel Complex) to the place known as Cruce de la Mata Vieja.

It is a concrete track at ground level, the topography of which adapts along the route.

It is located on the leeward slope of the second dune front on the Enebrales beach, running under an extensive stone pine forest, with an abundance of undergrowth of black juniper, broom, hawthorn and mastics. It is a top-notch forest formation whose origin can be found in the hydrological-forest protection activity undertaken at the beginning of the 20th century and which has allowed not only the consolidation of a stable coastline, but also the recovery of an ecosystem of great value and importance in terms of the environment and landscape.

The proximity of the tourist centre of Punta Umbría and the good transport connections with the city of Huelva, make this facility one of the most widely used in the province, which has led to strong demand for its expansion and extension to other nearby tourist areas.

The beach area can be accessed from the bicycle lane thanks to the presence of six small paths or walkways that connect directly with it. Walking along these walkways, the visitor can enjoy observing the typical embryonic dune landscape of the first line of dunes where they can appreciate some well-preserved specimens of coastal junipers, a species that constitutes the greatest botanical wealth of the area and that is It is cataloged in the List of Species of Endangered Flora of Andalusia.

Regarding the birdlife that inhabits these landscapes, several species of passerines (such as blue tits, great tits, greenfinches, long-tailed warblers) stand out due to their frequency and abundance, as well as some birds of prey which are common in these types of forest formations (such as barn owls, tawny owls, booted eagles and common buzzards)

As for other fauna groups, the best represented are reptiles, among which the common chameleon stands out for its rarity and uniqueness, here finding one of its best preserved natural environments.

CONNECTION WITH OTHER FACILITIES
Apart from the six signposted walkways that give access to the beach swimming area, in the municipal area, this facility is located very close to the Salinas del Astur Cycle Route and the Ribera de Punta Umbría Cycle Route. Also, it is located about 2 kilometres from the La Bota-El Portil cycle lane and about 3.5 kilometres from the Laguna del Portil signposted hiking trail.
