This nature reserve is located southwest of Jaen, in Tumbalagraja, Alcaudete, and borders Cordoba. The lagoon is a wetland area with high saline content. It is a seasonal lagoon, flooding with the first autumn rains and maintaining a certain level of water until spring, despite the contribution of a small flow of stream from the Sierra de Orbes.
The scant vegetation that separates it from the olive grove is dominated by reeds, bulrushes, rushes, and to a lesser extent tamarisk. The main species that settle in Laguna Honda are aquatic birds, although there are those for whom it is home and those that simply pass through to regain strength on their migratory trips. Species such as the moorhen, the common coot and the white-headed duck can be seen in this beautiful place.
