The River Jándula SAC occupies a small area of its 77.13 hectare basin, distributed between the towns of Marmolejo and Andújar, in Jaen province. The SAC is first and foremost an ecological corridor, bringing different ecosystems into contact and contributing to the connectivity and effectiveness of the Natura 2000 network. The River Jándula SAC is connected in this way with the Natura 2000 Sierras de Andújar network.

In addition to the aforementioned ecological connectivity, additional conservation priorities are outlined in the management plan of this protected area. These include some habitats of community interest which are linked to aquatic environments, as well as the fish that inhabit them, also of community interest. Up to 6 habitats of interest have been identified. In terms of fish, the following species have been recorded: Cobitis paludica, Pseudochondrostoma willkommii, Squalius pyrenaicus and Andalusian barbel. In addition, in other high areas of the River Jánduda not included in the scope of the SAC, Iberochondrostoma lemmingii have been identified.

Rivers and streams play an essential role in the conservation of numerous fauna species that use the areas as shelter, nesting and breeding grounds. The purple heron, Eurasian eagle owl, short-toed eagle and black kite are just a few of the many species that reside here.
