DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

With the impressive wall of the Sierra Huma on the horizon, the path heads towards the foothills of the massif. One of the most interesting marine fossil deposits from the Jurassic period is preserved in the area.

During your tour you can see a wonderful panoramic view that includes the historical stronghold of what was once the splendid Mozarabic city of Bobastro (10th century), the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir and the Tajos de Haza del Río that give shelter to a colony of griffon vultures.

As main ecosystems there are Aleppo pines, stone pines, holm oaks and eucalyptus, among others trees making up the arboreal layer accompanied by typical Mediterranean scrub with a predominance of savin junipers, common junipers, broom and fan palms among others.

It is also possible to observe the mountain goat as one of the most characteristic species of this area.

Any time of the year is good to do this hiking trail although it is preferable to do it in spring or autumn.

MAP
HOW TO GET

From Ardales take the MA-444 road and continue for about 6 kilometres where we will find a crossroads. Turn right towards Álora along the MA-448, staying on this road until the turnoff signposted towards the Tajo de la Encantada electrical substation. Here we turn left, crossing the bridge and looking for the El Chorro Neighbourhood.
Just behind the station building there is a street that will take us to a dirt track. The path is called Haza del río and connects with the Camino de la Pedrera further up and in a NE direction. The track has wide curves and ascends between Aleppo pines and repopulated maritime pine trees.
