ISLA DE ENMEDIO - Ventana del Visitante
The Isle of Enmedio Nature Reserve is located within the Marismas del Odiel Nature Reserve. Although its waters are brackish due to its proximity to the sea, it is of fluvial origin, having been formed by sediments carried by the Tinto River and the Odiel River.
This space stands out as a nesting area for herons, egrets, storks, and mallards, and for having the most important colony of spoonbills in Europe; 30% of the total population. In winter, many species find shelter and food in this natural protected area and it is also a stopover for migratory birds.
Due to its importance, it was classified a Special Protection Area for Birds in 1987. In addition to having been a Biosphere Reserve since 1983, and a Ramsar Site since 1989. It is in the process of being declared a Site of Community Interest.
In the sandy areas it is possible to sight chameleons.
