As a preventive measure to avoid the contagion of C0VID_19, this facility will remain closed until further notice.
The ecomuseum La Casa de los Volcanes is located in an old building called Casa PAF (Precipitation, Refinement and Smelting), dedicated to the exploitation of gold ore in Rodalquilar, until the closure of the exploitation in 1966.
During the visit, we are shown an unusual geological walk to get to know and interpret the landscapes of the Cabo de Gata Geopark, and also helps us to discover its particular geological personality in the context of the extraordinary Andalusian geodiversity.
Also, in one of the rooms, are exhibits of aspects relatin to the historical importance of the mining district of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park , from the historical mining of alums in the 16th century and of lead and silver during the 19th century, to the last and modern mining-metallurgical process developed at the DENVER plant for the extraction of gold.
It has a bar-cafeteria
Once in the Rodalquilar neighbourhood, we head towards the old mining town. After the information point, the El Albardinal botanical garden, and the administrative office of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, you will reach this ecomuseum.
