The impressive mountainous massif of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park is characterised by its whitish tones that are responsible for the abundant marble in the area. The sands created by the decomposition of this rock constitute an ideal environment for the maritime pine. The abundance of this species means the locals found pine resin to be an important source of income, eventually establishing the Unión Resinera Española factory in the area which closed in 1975.
Nowadays, the old chapel and the school belonging to the factory are home to the La Resinera information point. From its privileged location, not only can visitors learn about the resin process, but also about other resources that were, and in some cases continue to be, the livelihood of the inhabitants of this natural park.
The information point also invites you to learn about the historical legacy inherited from the different cultures that have passed through these borderlands, especially Muslims. Other spaces are dedicated to providing visitors with the keys to understanding the rugged landscape of these mountains, in order to understand how numerous exclusive species find refuge in the ridges and ravines.
From the GR-3302 road that connects the towns of Arenas del Rey and Fornes, we take the signposted exit towards La Resinera. Continuing along this path we access the information point finding ourselves halfway between both towns, approximately four kilometres from each.
