DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

Neighbouring the village of Rocío and located in the lower course of the stream of the same name, the La Rocina visitor centre also serves as a starting point for the interesting hiking trail that runs through part of its channel.

La Rocina is the main contribution of water feeding into the marsh. It has a very rich natural environment, with a dense network of small tributaries. It is made up of a mosaic of different landscapes from pine groves, ferns, heaths, brambles and reed beds to the typical vegetation of Monte Blanco, made up mainly of Montpellier cistus and aromatic shrubs such as lavender, rosemary and thyme. In addition to explaining these plant formations, the visitor centre also shows the fauna of the area, with abundant migratory and aquatic birds such as the voluminous greylag goose, the striking swamphen and the endangered squacco heron.

During the visit it is possible to discover the huts and traditional houses in which the residents of el Rocio lived, as well as the history of the world-famous pilgrimage.
