LAGAR DE TORRIJOS - Ventana del Visitante
The Lagar de Torrijos ecomuseum is surrounded by the dense pine forest that characterises the Montes de Málaga and it marks the beginning of one of the most attractive hiking trails in the natural park.
This region of the Montes de Málaga was very famous in the past for the production of its magnificent sweet, semi-sweet and dry wines. Although few and far between, even today some traditional winery constructions from those times are preserved, these are known as lagares.
The lagares arebuildings primarily used for the production of wines. El Lagar de Torrijos is particularly interesting, dating back to 1843 and representing the typical wine presses in the mountains of Malaga. This building, which is generally preserved exactly as it was built, currently houses the aforementioned ecomuseum, which is a must-see for visitors to the Montes de Málaga Natural Park.
Inside, visitors will be able to learn the intricasies in the process of artisan elaboration of the exquisite wines that made the region famous. Additionally, you can visit the premises where there are ovens for baking bread, an oil mill and even a residential section.
