DESCRIPTION
The name of the trail sufficiently expresses what this trail offers: a journey through a wide area of open oak woodland (dehesas), which constitute an essential piece of the landscapes, economy, culture and ecosystem of the Sierra Morena.
The dehesas, which give the hiking trail its name and meaning, are nothing more than forests which are cleared and manipulated to turn them into mixed farms for livestock, agriculture and forestry. Its trees are, in general, holm oaks, although we will also see some cork oaks. Usually the biodiversity, or variety of species, is reduced to a minimum in lands dedicated to agriculture or livestock, but this is not the case in these Mediterranean dehesas, which are one of the richest and most valued ecosystems of the Sierra Morena and of the southwest of the Iberian peninsula.
These ancient silvopastoral systems are home to a great number of animal and plant species, which find food and shelter to live and reproduce here, while allowing a variety of uses especially for cattle and sheep grazing, the 'montanera' phase of iberian pig farming, hunting grounds, the production of wood and firewood as well as the picking of mushrooms, asparagus and other foods.
San Nicolás del Puerto is inextricably associated with the generous sources of water in the headwaters of the Ribera de Huéznar. Next to the bridge we see an unusual artificial beach, with waters that fill up trapped by the metal gates next to the bridge. In hot weather, both locals and visitors enjoy the ingenuity, since the precious liquid resource, so scarce in the surroundings, is never lacking here.

HOW TO GET
San Nicolás del Puerto is reached by the San Nicolás del Puerto - Constantina road (SE-7102), the Cazalla-Constantina Station road (SE-7101) or the Alanís-San Nicolás del Puerto road (SE-8100). The hiking trail begins at a place popularly known as "La Playa", next to the crossroads with the station road.
GOOD PRACTICES
Do not disturb or feed the animals. You would negatively alter their behavior.
Check the weather forecast before starting your activity.
Bring water, sun protection, suitable clothing and footwear.
Bring a mobile phone with enough battery in case of emergency (112), but remember that there is not always coverage.
For your safety and that of the environment, do not go off the signposted trail or take shortcuts.
Extreme caution in adverse conditions and in the occasional presence of animals or motor vehicles.
Follow the recommendations and comply with the regulations at all times
Respect the facilities put at your disposal. We all pay for its maintenance.
Help prevent fires. Do not throw cigarettes or any other object that produces combustion.
Trash doesn't come back alone. Take it with you to the nearest container. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Avoid going out alone. If you do, communicate the route and time of return to other people.
Noise is another form of pollution. In silence you will enjoy your experience more.
Live respectfully with the locals and other users. Respect private property.
Facilitate use for people with special needs.
By consuming local products and counting on local companies, you will contribute to rural development.
Practice responsible tourism and committed to the environment. Be a true ecotourist!
Never leave your pet in the wild. It would endanger the flora and fauna of the place.
Get around in a sustainable way: public transport, bicycle, on foot, electric or shared vehicle ... Park in the designated places
Do not leave a trace of your passage through nature. The best memory you can take with you is your own photograph.
