DESCRIPTION

The Torcal de Antequera Natural Park offers us a series of natural resources of such high environmental importance that since the late 1920s it has been identified as an area subject to protection and conservation work.

The singularities of its geology and its geomorphology have been perfectly complemented by other highly relevant values such as the rich and varied biodiversity that it houses, its prehistoric sites and of course its peculiar landscape. The landscape is actually one of the most valuable resources in this limestone mountain range that as a promontory in a more or less smooth and hilly environment, it stands out against the countryside like a privileged watchtower.

From this viewpoint, whose name pays tribute to the late Manuel Grajales Montiel, who for decades watched over the area with his tireless work for the conservation and maintenance of the Sierra del Torcal, you have the chance to see a wide visual panorama in a southern direction that reaches up to the coast of Malaga and the Mediterranean Sea.

The facility is associated with the Subida al Torcal Alto hiking trail, on which you will reach the small hill at 1,095 metres of altitude where the viewpoint is located, a place worth taking a rest stop after the long ascent from the Venta del Rosario, next to the A-7075 road that connects Antequera with Villanueva de la Concepción. It is precisely this last population centre that is visible in the foreground just below the viewpoint, in a southerly direction. You can also see a part of the arch of limestone mountain ranges that mark out the Malaga basin such as the mountains of Camarolos and Las Cabras on the left and the Sierra de Mijas close to the sea out in front of you.

The viewpoint consists of a simple partial enclosure with a small wall of stones on the ground, provided with a protective metal railing designed to mark out the observation area; No other interventions or alterations to the natural environment have been made to avoid visual impact, even the road surface and its natural incline have been maintained in order to blend in to the landscape as much as possible.

Take a little break in this place to enjoy the views. If visibility is good enough, it is worth trying to locate the many geographical landmarks that can be seen from here, and thus take a break to continue with the ascent to Torcal Alto along the path of the same name.

For your own safety, do not leave the area marked out by the viewpoint, or venture off the path, it can be dangerous especially on foggy days.
