This trail takes you into the Alfahuara meadow, a mixed forest made up of pines and oaks, magnificent both on account of its age and degree of conservation. As well as the welcome shade that this forest provides, the route is a peaceful and interesting one.
Previously, the meadow was a game reserve for the Los Vélez Marquisate. As a result, it has been protected from excessive exploitation and lives on to this day in its splendid current state of conservation.
At the highest part of the trail, the La Dehesa viewpoint stands out . From here there are magnificent panoramic views of the shaded side of the Sierra de María, where the extensive plain forest ascends until it makes contact with the vertical walls of the mountain range. After stopping to admire the views, a gentle descent leads back down to the La Piza recreational area.
Head to the town of María, in the Los Vélez region of Almeria. Cross the town in order to take the AL-832 secondary road. At about 5 kilometres you will reach the La Piza recreational area, which is where the trail begins.
