DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

Walking along the Charco de la Boca hiking trail, we enter the Algaida del Meloncillo. This is the second walkway on this path where willows and reeds are scattered, and it offers a privileged view of the flooded areas. After the flooded areas, it ends in a flat and clear terrain, occupied by the white mountains, in which the pines give way to a white Montpellier cistus cover accompanied by various aromatic plants such as rosemary, lavender and thymus albicans. In the areas around the stream, the soil is more humid and rich and the vegetation diversifies, with wild olives, kermes oaks, mastics and fan palms putting in an appearance.

This observatory overlooks the last section of the La Rocina stream, where the channel becomes wide and shallow. When the area remains flooded, countless birds can be seen in these waters. La Rocina is an ideal breeding area for the common swamphen and little bittern, but it is also possible to observe other species that frequent this place such as glossy ibis, little egrets, gray herons and purple herons, among others.

HOW TO GET

This observatory is the second we come across when we walk along the Charco de La Boca foot path, which begins next to the La Rocina visitor centre. We will arrive at this centre by the A-483 road, which connects the village of Rocío with the nucleus of Matalascañas, taking the exit that indicates La Rocina and El Acebrón. As soon as you leave the road, next to the car park, we find the visitor centre and next to it the path.
