DESCRIPTION

Este sendero que parte del paraje conocido como Prados del Rey, recorre el antiguo camino que desde aquí se extendía hasta las inmediaciones de la explotación minera conocida como Minas del Carmen, de donde se extraían galena, oligisto, fluorita y siderita, que fueron los principales minerales extraídos hasta finales del siglo pasado.

El sendero es circular y nos lleva hasta una antigua explotación minera, Filón Violeta, a través de una de las formación boscosas más identificativas de este espacio natural.

Tras una suave bajada, comenzaremos a partir de aquí una subida a través de un pinar de alta montaña con predominio del pino silvestre (Pinus sylvestris L. subsp. nevadensis) y un sotobosque de enebros y sabinas rastreras.

A media subida encontraremos una formación kárstica de interés donde podremos realizar una parada, contemplar esta interesante dolina y comprender mejor la dinámica geológica del entorno. Unas últimas rampas nos llevarán hasta la entrada de la antigua explotación minera llamada Filón Violeta, donde hasta los años 80 se extraía galena, pirita, calcopirita, fluorita, pirolusita, malaquita, azurita y hemimorfita.

El sendero prosigue a partir de este momento por una antigua pista que nos conduce hasta la siguiente parada, el mirador del Calar de Casa Heredia, donde contemplaremos una impresionante panorámica de la zona sur del Parque de Baza con cimas como el Calar de Rapa, el Calar de San Sebastián o el Calar de los Descabezados todos por encima de los 2.000 m de altitud.

El recorrido suavemente nos acerca al entorno de las llamadas Minas de la Cruz, conduciéndonos hasta la zona del inicio del sendero en los Prados del Rey.

Este sendero sólo es ciclable en el tramo que discurre por antiguos caminos (ver mapa).

Existen conexiones con otros senderos del entorno que pueden hacer más amplia la experiencia.

Desde la autovía A-92 sentido Baza, tomar la salida 28 y continuar por la pista forestal asfaltada durante unos 5 km hasta llegar directamente al Centro de Visitantes Narváez. Continuar por pista forestal unos 12 kilómetros, pasando por el Área Recreativa La Canaleja Alta hasta llegar al aparcamiento habilitado en las inmediaciones de los Prados del Rey.
