DESCRIPTION

The hiking trail begins and ends in Salares, which takes us through a comfortable route to different places which are representative of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, offering us excellent views of the surroundings. Combining history and nature, you will find plenty of reasons to enjoy the hiking trail. Salares is one of the small towns that is part of the well-known Mudejar Route, a cultural journey through the foothills of the Sierra de Tejeda, with substantial historical and natural stories.

The visit to the Arab bridge of Salares increases the appeal of this circular route in which you can see the landscape contrast between the sunny and shady areas. After leaving behind the stream of the same name, a small area of orchards and the House of Haro, we will enter the sunny area or solana, whose remarkable nakedness is replaced by the populated landscape of pine forest that we can see in the shady area or umbría.

Mudejar art is an artistic style developed in the Iberian Christian kingdoms, between the 12th and 16th centuries, with a clear Muslim influence. A fusion that is explained by the coexistence of Christian and Muslim kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula for just under eight centuries, and that is therefore an almost exclusively Hispanic phenomenon, this sometimes extends to the colonies. It mainly appears are in Toledo, León, Aragon and Andalusia.

In the last centuries of the Arab presence in the peninsula, it was reduced to the eastern half of Andalusia, of which the Axarquía was part. A presence that lasted after the fall of the Nasrid kingdom until the definitive expulsion of the Moors in 1611. These facts explain numerous elements of the landscape, culture and urban planning of the region, similarly, this is the reason for the route known as the Mudejar Route in the surrounding areas of Vélez Málaga, capital of la Axarquía, which includes Salares, Arenas, Archez, Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno.
