DESCRIPTION
The Punta Entinas-Sabinar Nature Reserve has interesting fauna, flora and landscape. It stretches across a strip of land approximately one kilometre in width, between the coastline and reliefs of Los Alcores. It is an ecosystem combining four different environments: sandy beaches, dune systems set in place by Mediterranean scrubland, salt flats, and small ponds. These ponds serve as shelter for a number of aquatic birds and are a stopover for numerous species on their migratory journeys.
Marram grass grows further back from the beaches and turns into Mediterranean scrubland further inland, with mastic trees, Phoenicean juniper, black hawthorn and agave americana. There is reed and tamarisk on the salt flats. This area is under enormous pressure due to the intensive greenhouse agriculture surrounding it and also because of urban development that is increasingly occupying larger areas.
