RÍO GUADALMESÍ - Ventana del Visitante
River of the Women is the translation of the original Arabic that gives its name to this superb natural hiking trail. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it allows you to travel back in time thousands of years. At that time, in the Mediterranean, there were tropical climate conditions with abundant fog where small trees grew with leaves like those of the laurel making forests called laurisilva, which have almost completely disappeared due to the climatic changes of the last ice ages. It is hard to imagine that this is preserved in southern Europe.
At the highest points of this hiking trail there are views over the Straits that cannot fail to impress. The skies will be brightened by the flight of migratory and resident birds that, passing between continents and scanning their hunting grounds, become a spectacle that is worth seeing. The hiking trail approaches the course of the river, where you can discover one of the most accessible canutos (typical gallery forests) of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. You can go from the misty Bosque de Niebla forest to the laurisilva forest in just a few minutes.
