DESCRIPTION

The Rivera del Aserrador is a linear extension from the Sierra Pelada mountain range to the mouth of the Guadiana River. The Aserrador is a deep channel, intensely eroded on slate rocks and quartzites; hard materials which, when they break off, give rise to a sort of 'boxing' effect on this river's course. This effect is one of the most notable factors encountered by those visiting this facility, and its visual impact becomes even more noticeable when watching the viaduct, which crosses the channel alongside the the A-495 motorway.

This route includes a short walk, taking advantage of the fact it follows the layout of the old road between Santa Bárbara de Casas and Rosal de la Frontera, and along it is a wide panoramic view of the forest landscape that extends over most of the region including meadows with various livestock and masses of eucalyptus that were, until recently, used to produce cellulose pulp.

As you follow the trail, pay attention to how the direction of the slope affects how the plants on it form. As a result, the most exposed slopes have less diverse vegetation based on the face species need to be well-adapted to light and lack of humidity: rockrose, Montpellier cistus, gorse, thyme, rosemary and other species able to fare arid conditions conditions. On the contrary, the more sheltered slopes with higher humidity levels (falling into the shaded area) allow demanding species to flourish: pyrite, laurustinus, strawberry tree, mastic and heather are common in these environments. On the other hand, on the riverbanks, the flooded surface is the main factors that determines the type of vegetation present: reeds, oleanders, white heather and single specimens or small groups of willows, alders and ash trees occupy most of the margins from the riverbank.
