DESCRIPTION

The start of this route crosses a forest where we find a a lot of the characteristic trees of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche and Sierra Morena Natural Park : Valencian oaks, holm oaks, cork oaks, strawberry trees, pines and, of course, oaks and chestnut trees.

The path is flanked by stone walls over which ivy, brambles and honeysuckle climb, and which enclose the pig beds and fertile orchards planted with vegetables in the shade of walnut trees, quince trees, pomegranate trees and fig trees.

But it is be the chestnut trees that will always accompany us, with their trunks of sculptural shapes, arranged in rows that comb the hill, and that tear the air when their bare branches of leaves become flexible, but hard and resistant rods, due to the effect of the topping, pruning that rejuvenates them to keep them, despite their long-lived trunk, productive for longer.

In addition to the familiar greenfinches, this is the territory of the rare and elusive oriole, the jay, the greater spotted woodpecker, the lesser spotted and the royal woodpecker, the great tits, etc. Birds of prey such as the booted eagle and the buzzard make their nests in the tallest trees, while the nocturnal ones such as tawny and small owls, take advantage of the hollows in the trunks, also used as burrows by foxes, mongooses, badgers and genets.
