SALINAS DE BACUTA - Ventana del Visitante
The Salinas de Bacuta trail runs along the dividing walls of the crystallisation pools of the traditional salt plains that were used historically in the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park.
The tour allows us to see how the salt production process was, the interconnection between the different water storage, evaporation and crystallisation ponds, the water inlet and outlet regulation systems as well as the creation and maintenance of the separation walls on which the route of the hiking trail runs.
The abandonment of these salt plains (replaced by large-scale industrial exploitations) has given way to the creation of unique ecosystems that enrich the visit and that allow you to enjoy watching a number of different birds such as: flamingos; lapwings, stilts, dunlins and egrets, as well as occasionally gray herons and spoonbills.
The trail is completed with a visit to the "Centro de la Sal" built with views of the Huelva estuary and where you can get extensive information on the traditional salt industry (manufacturing processes, tools and utensils, etc.) .
