DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The route begins in the Pinos del Mar residential area where it crosses a pine forest where forest fire prevention works have recently been carried out. After crossing this first section, the lane continues into a mature pine forest, with tall, dense and vigorous trees and an array of vegetation comprised of large, vibrant junipers, mock privets, mastics, myrtles and rosemary that grow in the shelter of the canopy and leeward of prevailing winds.

After leaving this area, the lane ascends towards the old dune, on a route that follows the contour of an area affected by fire and repopulated with stone pine that has not developed fully and where rockrose (Halimium halimifolium) grows in large numbers on inert sands.

After coming down from the dune and crossing the underpass of the A-497 motorway, the lane again enters a tall and consolidated pine forest, though this time the flowers and vegetation isare much more limited in both density and diversity. The impact of salty winds coming from the already nearby marsh along with scarce soil development, significantly reduce the presence of the shrubs and scrubs to some representation of juniper (much less developed than those on the first part of the route), broom or rockrose.

At the most northeastern end, the cycle route reaches the border where the pine forest meets the Astur marshes, which offers a wide panoramic view of the network of waterways and pipes that make up the La Bota estuary and the Isla de la Liebre. From here, you can access the old Astur salt flats facilities.
