DESCRIPTION

Este sendero nos conducirá hasta la cima más alta del Parque Natural Sierra de Baza, el pico Santa Bárbara, con 2.268,7 m de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, desde donde podremos disfrutar de una magnífica panorámica de la Hoya de Baza al norte y de la línea de cumbres de Sierra Nevada al sur.

Es un sendero lineal y ambos extremos se encuentran señalizados.

Si optamos por la subida desde Prados del Rey muy cerca del inicio del sendero Prados del Rey-Minas del Carmen encontraremos en nuestro recorrido antiguas labores mineras. Éstas, aunque están debidamente señalizadas, pueden suponer un peligro en caso de abandonar el sendero. Llegaremos al punto más alto, marcado como vértice geodésico. Desde aquí se pueden disfrutar de unas espectaculares vistas de 360 grados: al norte, el Pico de La Sagra; al fondo, las Sierras de Castril y las vecinas Sierras de Cazorla y Segura; y hacia el fondo sur, las cumbres del Parque Nacional y Natural de Sierra Nevada. A partir de ahí comienza la bajada zigzageante hasta las Minas del Carmen.

En este tramo nos encontraremos una formación kárstica interesante, una dolina que durante el invierno y parte de la primavera, contiene una somera capa de agua de la que se aprovecha la fauna del entorno.

Durante toda la bajada se podrá disfrutar de unas magníficas vistas panorámicas de los calares revestidos por una vegetación compuesta principalmente por un claro bosque de pino silvestre con sabinas y enebros rastreros.

Este sendero se encuentra conectando con el sendero Prados del Rey-Minas del Carmen.

HOW TO GET

Desde la autovía A-92 sentido Baza, tomar la salida 28 y continuar por la pista forestal asfaltada durante unos 5 km hasta llegar directamente al Centro de Visitantes Narváez. Continuar por pista forestal unos 12 kilómetros, pasando por el Área Recreativa La Canaleja Alta hasta llegar al aparcamiento habilitado en las inmediaciones de los Prados del Rey. El sendero se inicia junto al aparcamiento habilitado en las inmediaciones de los Prados del Rey, concretamente se inicia en la primera desviación del sendero que nos lleva a Minas del Carmen o bien desde las Minas del Carmen.
