The Despeñaperros Nature Park's location between the Castilian plateau and the Guadalquivir Valley means that it has been inhabited since way back in history there are a large number of prehistoric caves and shelters in the area. Many of these are to be found in the Despeñaperros River Canyon, the site of Los Órganos, Las Correderas and Vacas del Retamoso. The first of these is within the Natural Monument of the same name, which you can look at from a nearby viewpoint. The two further sites are close to the Barranco de Valdeazores Trail.
