DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The Cabeza Alta Trail is the last route along the Dique Juan Carlos I Road. In this case, the facility stands in the sandy strip that has been formed by the barrier effect the construction of the jetty has caused in tidal flow along this stretch of coastline. It's a narrow strip, bringing together the different estuaries and streams that make up the easternmost end of Isla Saltés.

The trail begins next to an area with parking facilities. After travelling the first few metres on a loose sand path, it becomes an elevated walkway to protect the budding regeneration of vegetation. Throughout the route, you can see different species of birds utilising the marsh for their development: gulls, stilts; sandpipers, oystercatchers, redshanks and terns frequent these areas throughout much of the year, given the biological productivity that characterises these areas.

HOW TO GET

From the Huelva-Punta Umbría motorway (A-497), take the exit towards the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park which leads to the Dique Juan Carlos I motorway. Continue along it and, after passing the turning to the Anastasio Senra Visitor Centre, continue towards the Puente del Burro, crossing it to get to la Isla de Saltes. From this point, and after travelling approximately 5,600 metres, we will find the start sign located in a lay-by on the right-hand side of the road.
