In this botanical garden you will be able to learn about the characteristic species and plant communities of the Andalusian Atlantic coast (the Gaditano-Onubense and Algarviense Biogeographic Sectors), a 20 to 30 kilometre-wide arch between the mouth of the Guadiana in Huelva and the cliffs of Barbate in Cádiz.
The sea, which exerts its influence through the tides and salty spray, marks this extense of sandy areas dotted with abundant temporary and permanent lagoons and rocky cliffs. On top of this, there are streams and large rivers, whose fresh waters meet the salty waters of the sea in the marshes, creating a unique landscape inhabited by a very rich and varied flora.
At the following link you can consult theplant of the month, a file that describes a significant species chosen for its conservation status, the cultural values developed around it and some interesting facts relating to its how it survives, its habitat, adaptation etc.
Accessed from Seville by taking the A-49 towards Huelva (exit number 77). Then take exit 84B of the H-31 towards La Rábida. Continue on the H-30 in the same direction until you join the N-442, continue towards Mazagón until km 13.8 where the Dunas del Odiel Botanical Garden is located.
