DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The viewpoint is located on one of the classic access routes to the upper area of the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park and Pico Torrecilla. The steepness of the lay of the land in this area allows us to discover practically all the different types of plants possible, with areas of scrub, fir forests and high mountain meadows dotted with centenary Valencian oaks.

In this space we can find the typical fauna and flora of the Mediterranean climate, of particular interest in terms of fauna are the mountain goats and foxes that prey on field mice, voles and rabbits. If we raise our gaze to the sky a bit we can find birds of prey such as the golden, short-toed and booted eagles. IN terms of flora we can see the jewel in the crown of Sierras de las Nieves, the Spanish fir, alongside Mediterranean scrub, aleppo pines, scots pines and maritime pines and repopulated species such as the gall and the cedar.

From the Puerto Saucillo viewpoint, located at an altitude of 1,200 metres, we can enjoy spectacular panoramic views. On the left you can see Sierra Prieta and Sierra Cabrilla, the town of Yunquera, the Guadalhorce and Rio Grande valley and the Hoya de Málaga in the background. On the right you'll see the mountains of Mijas and Alhaurín, Sierra de Alpujata and Sierra Blanca.

HOW TO GET

Starting at Yunquera there is a lane called de la Sierra, it is a concrete lane up until the Vacamón junction, where it changes into a dirt track. During this tour, we cross different landscapes as we gain altitude. After the area of crops, we arrive at the entrance of the natural park, marked by a perimeter fence with a cattle grid with a gate which we must go along follow on our right side, here the dominance of the Spanish fir is already evident. Once inside, the path soon divides into two, we must take the one that branches off to the right, winding up the slope until we reach our destination.
