DATA OF INTEREST
DESCRIPTION

The Arroyo de Martín Pérez hiking trail runs most of its journey parallel to the riverbed that gives it its name, a small mountain stream surrounded by fabulous riparian vegetation, where large specimens of ash and alder trees stand out, and there are even hackberry trees that will delight the most passionate botanists. But without a doubt, the highlight of this tour are its two waterfalls, El Cimbarrillo and El Negrillo, waterfalls that make this a unique place.

The path begins in the Arroyo de Martín Pérez or del Cimbarrillo recreational area, accompanying the riverbed on its right bank, practically on the rivert, although later it will cross the water. During our tour we will enter a gallery forest that will sometimes make us lose sight of the sky, and in which, in addition to the well-preserved arboreal specimens, we can find a rich undergrowth formed by flueggea tinctoria, oleanders, brambles, rushes, hawthorns and reeds. If we look at the pool of water we can see a bioindicator of the high quality of these waters, a small floating plant called "duckweed".

Access to the channel starts getting difficult, so the path momentarily deviates from it to descend thanks to a series of steps to one of the main attractions of this path: El Cimbarrillo. This beautiful waterfall is hidden behind the oleanders, which we have had to move aside in order to see it, it is equally as beautiful as the Cimbarra.

Walking back on ourselves, we resume the path to continue descending down the river until we reach the confluence of this tributary with the Guarrizas river. If we are attentive we can easily observe scaly droppings on the rocks, an unequivocal sign of the presence of otters in these waters.

Although this is the end of the trail, it is advisable to know that if you go up the Guarrizas river a few metres, you will reach the third of the waterfalls in this area: El Charco del Negrillo. It is a magical waterfall followed by a great backwater which hides the best-kept secret in the sierra, framed in a beautiful enclave where geology and vegetation have created a landscape of spectacular beauty.
